Note about Modula. Like Pascal, Modula-2 is a great language. One of the few mainstream languages that implemented coroutines. You can use Modula-2 instead of Turbo Pascal as an introductory language, but nothing in Modula space matches the quality of Turbo Pascal as an introductory language. Modula-2 is Niklaus Wirth's newest programming language. Pascal, his first language written in the late sixties, was designed principally for teaching structured programming. Somehwat to Wirth's surprise, people began using Pascal as the language of choice in many programming applications. As might be expected, Pascal does not contain many of the ingredients needed to make it a general.

The Third Edition () made the EXPORT clause redundant. The Fourth (and final) Edition (, this one, I hope) made 'CARDINAL' a subset of 'INTEGER'.Cited by: This text is an introduction to programming in general, and a manual for programmjng with the language Modula-2 in particular.
It is oriented primarily towards people who have already acquired some basic knowledge of programming and would like to deepen their understanding in a more structured : Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
Use of the programming language Modula-2 is reinforced with numerous hands-on exercises. This book does not presuppose any knowledge of programming, but it does require a certain ability in the realm of abstract thinking, some pleasure in problem solving, and a desire to come to terms with complex interrelationships.
About the Book Modula A Complete Guide is both a comprehensive Modula-2 reference and a text for learning Modula The only background required of the reader is experience writing programs in a structured, high-level language such as Pascal, PL/l, Ada, or C.
"Programming in Modula-2" by Niklaus Wirth can be considered as the standard reference for Modula-2 programmers. It is an introduction to programming in general as well as a manual for programming with the language Modula-2 in particular.

The paper reflects knowledge gained by updating the MOCKA Modula-2 compiler. Here is the complete abstract: "The classic Modula-2 language was specified in [Wir78] by at ETH Zürich in The last revision [Wir88] was published in Many computer science books of that era used Modula-2 in programming examples.
A language is an infinite set of sentences, namely the sentences well formed according to its syntax. In Modula-2 these sentences are called compilation units. Each unit is a finite sequence of symbols from a finite vocabulary. The vocabulary of Module-2 consists. The notation used is Modula-2, which lends itself well for a structured approach and leads the student to a working style that has generally become known under the title of structured programming.
As a manual for programming in Modula-2, the text covers practically all facilities of that language. K.J. Gough and G.M. Mohay, "MODULA A Second Course in Programming", Prentice-Hall.
(This book discusses the use of Modula-2 for programming-in-the-large and systems programming.) N. Wirth, "Algorithms and Data Structures", Prentice-Hall, (This is a book on programming examples based on an earlier book of the same title using Pascal.). Modula-2+ has been used to develop Topaz, an operating system for the DEC SRC Firefly Multiprocessor.
Most Topaz applications were written in the Modula-2+ programming language which grew along with the development of the system. Also to build a programming environment for it in the Acorn Research Center ed by: DEC Systems Research Center SRC and.
It is a centre for information on Niklaus Wirth's programming notation (language) Modula A descendent of and replacement for his earlier Pascal notation, Modula-2 corrects many of the defficencies in earlier notations and adds important new features, yet remains small, compact, and teachable.
